Following the tragic death of a five-year-old boy due to a leopard attack on December 6, 2025, the Tamil Nadu Forest Department formed a committee to address human-animal conflicts in Valparai. The order to establish the committee was issued by Supriya Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary to the Environment, Climate Change and Forest Department, on December 7. The committee will be chaired by S. Ramasubramanian, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, and will include various officials and experts. Its primary task is to assess the ground conditions in Valparai and provide recommendations for effective conservation and safety measures. The committee is expected to submit its findings within two weeks. This year, three children from migrant worker families have died in attacks by leopards and sloth bears in the estate regions of Valparai.
