Czech hard coal mining ends with closure of OKD’s CSM mine
Why it matters
The closure was marked by a farewell ceremony and a symbolic final cart of coal lifted from about 1,300 metres underground at the CSM site near the Polish border. OKD said the mine was no longer economically viable because of high production costs. About 700 employees will remain for decommissioning work, and other workers are to be offered retraining.
