The Karnataka Muzrai Department has disbursed ₹38.38 lakh to support 254 students from priest families under a scholarship scheme launched in 2023. Out of these beneficiaries, 230 are children of priests, while the remaining 24 are children of temple staff. The initiative aims to provide financial assistance for various educational courses, including medical, engineering, and postgraduate studies, addressing the financial challenges faced by these families. Notably, five students have been granted ₹1 lakh each for pursuing higher education abroad. The department also introduced a posthumous financial assistance scheme, providing ₹2 lakh to families of deceased priests and staff, with ₹56 lakh already distributed to 28 bereaved families. Applications for the scholarship scheme will be accepted until December 31, 2025.
