EU Ministers Approve Comprehensive Migration Reform Plan for 2026

EU interior ministers agreed on a broad migration reform plan on December 9, 2025, aimed at faster deportations and improved asylum processing. The plan includes creating a €430 million solidarity fund, relocating 21,000 asylum seekers, and establishing lists of safe countries. Countries like Cyprus, Greece, Italy, and Spain are identified as under the highest pressure. Some members, including Germany, opposed accepting additional asylum seekers or providing financial support.
