Why it matters
On November 10, 2025, the Indian Air Force successfully airlifted 197 Indian nationals from Mae Sot, Thailand, where they had fled from cyber scam centers in Myanmar. This operation was supervised by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to combat cyber fraud and human trafficking. The Indian embassy stated that these individuals had crossed into Thailand after the Myanmar military intensified crackdowns on illegal cyber operations. Earlier, on November 6, 270 Indian nationals were also evacuated from Myanmar. The embassy warned that repatriated individuals would undergo investigations regarding their activities in the cyber hubs. The Indian government continues to stress the need for citizens to verify job offers abroad to avoid falling victim to scams.
