What happened
NITI Aayog recognised Kerala’s State government LIFE (Livelihood, Inclusion and Financial Empowerment) Mission as one of the best practices in affordable housing in India. NITI Aayog called it a “multi-faceted convergence and community-based model” that brings together resources of various departments and local self-government institutions to address housing needs of the poor. Minister for Local Self-Governments M.B. Rajesh said 4,76,076 houses have been completed under the scheme and 1,24,471 are under construction. He said the State offers ₹4 lakh per house and ₹6 lakh for Scheduled Tribe beneficiaries, and expressed confidence that five lakh houses would be completed by February.
