Unit 2 has a capacity of 250 MW within the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, which totals 2,000 MW across eight 250 MW units. The project is a run-of-river plant with water storage on the Subansiri, located near North Lakhimpur on the Arunachal Pradesh–Assam border. Project construction cost is around Rs 27,000 crore and NHPC operates under the Ministry of Power. NHPC declared unit 2 commercially operational from 00:00 hours on 23 December 2025.
