Syrian state moves to absorb Kurdish-led SDF
Why it matters
The agreement follows weeks of clashes in north-east Syria and a prior ceasefire arrangement earlier in the month. The deal outlines SDF withdrawal from contact points, incorporation of SDF members into the Syrian army and government, and the merging of SDF-run administrative and civil bodies into state institutions. The SDF said the arrangement includes creating a military division of three brigades composed of its members and referenced understandings on Kurdish civil and educational rights.
